Different problems, compared honestly
DefendDomain compared to Red Points
Red Points is a counterfeit and intellectual property enforcement platform, overlapping Digital Risk Protection (DRP) at the edges but answering a different question.
Red Points is an enforcement engine built for counterfeits, piracy and unauthorised distribution at very high volume, with domain abuse as one strand among many. DefendDomain is a security product for the domains criminals register to defraud your customers, your staff and your suppliers. If the brief came from legal and it is about revenue lost to knock-offs, Red Points is the better buy; the domains we chase are after payments and credentials, and that brief usually comes from security.
What Red Points does well, and who should buy them
Taken from what Red Points publishes about its own product. If this is the shape of your problem, they are a reasonable buy and we will say so.
Enforcement machinery at genuine scale
Processing listings and running removals across thousands of marketplaces is an operations problem as much as a technology one, and they have built for it. If counterfeits are your revenue leak, that machinery is the answer.
Unlimited takedowns, stated plainly
Their published pricing says you are not charged per detection and not charged per takedown, with operations run for you. Very few vendors in this category will commit to that in public, and it is the right shape for a brand team that cannot absorb the workload.
Revenue recovery and litigation support
Extending past removal into recovery and legal support is a genuinely different offering, and the right one if IP enforcement in your business is a legal function.

Where DefendDomain goes deeper
We work on one layer, which is the domains registered to impersonate you. Everything we build goes into finding them early and shutting them down fast.
Fraud, not fakes
A look-alike domain earns its money by redirecting a supplier payment, harvesting your staff credentials through a copy of your login page, or taking card details from a customer who thought they were on your checkout. Counterfeit goods are a different trade with a different remedy.
Caught before it is used, not after it sells
We watch around 500 look-alikes of each of your domains from registration, stream over 100 certificate transparency logs, and re-check DNS, WHOIS and mail setup continuously, so a domain is on our list well before anything is hosted on it.
The security half of the job
Outward detection and inward posture in one platform. Alerts feed Slack, Microsoft Teams, Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel and Wazuh, because in our customers this lands on a security or IT team rather than a brand team.
Choose Red Points if
- Counterfeit listings and piracy are costing you revenue at volume.
- IP enforcement in your business runs through legal or brand rather than security.
- You need marketplace, social and paid ad enforcement as the main event.
- Revenue recovery and litigation support are part of what you want from a vendor.
- The number that matters to you is enforcement volume, thousands of listings rather than a handful of domains.
Choose DefendDomain if
- The risk is fraud against your customers, staff and suppliers rather than fake products.
- You are B2B, where marketplace counterfeits are irrelevant but invoice fraud is not.
- You want the mail-only look-alikes caught on their mail records, which a listing-enforcement engine is not built to see.
- You want your own email authentication, DNS, TLS and web hardening graded as well as watched.
- The budget for this sits with security or IT, and they want the alerts in the tools they already run.
DefendDomain and Red Points, side by side
| DefendDomain | Red Points | |
|---|---|---|
| What the product is built around | 100% focused on being the best in the world at detecting and removing look-alike domains. Five detection layers, all pointed at the same job | Counterfeit, piracy and IP enforcement across marketplaces, social and paid ads, with domain abuse as one strand |
| Look-alike domains that never host a website | Treated as a finished weapon. Every registered look-alike is fingerprinted for MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC, and the moment one is wired up to send email it resurfaces | Fake website and domain abuse detection is published, with large domain scanning figures. Their material does not set out mail-record fingerprinting of look-alikes that host no website |
| When someone copies your website | Invisible markers on every page fire when your content loads somewhere you do not control, and distinctive phrases from your site are swept across search engines continuously | Detection of fake sites and infringing listings is published. Site-embedded markers and phrase-level fingerprinting of your own pages are not described in their material |
| Takedowns | Unlimited on every plan, run across twelve channels in parallel, with the evidence pack frozen at initiation and the follow-up chased for you | Unlimited detections and takedowns with fully managed operations, stated plainly in their published pricing material. This is a genuine strength and one of the few vendors in the category to commit to it publicly |
| Your own domains | Layer 5 grades your email authentication, DNS hygiene and takeover risk, TLS, web hardening and exposure daily and gives you an A to F scorecard with per-finding remediation | Not part of the published platform. The orientation is enforcement against abuse of your brand |
| How you buy it | One flat annual subscription, quoted from a demo, sized for the mid-market. Self-managed or fully managed, your choice | Quote-led, configured by abuse type and channel scope, with named tiers. Pricing is quote only and no price list is published |

What each of us costs
Not everyone in this category publishes a price, so here is the shape of it rather than a number we cannot stand behind.
What Red Points publishes
Red Points does not publish a price list.
What moves the number
Enforcement platforms are generally sized against infringement volume and the number of marketplaces and jurisdictions in scope.
How DefendDomain charges
The number does not move with volume. It is set once a year and stays there however many takedowns you need, which is the whole point of not metering them.
What moving actually involves
There is no security agent to deploy and no data to migrate. The one thing that touches your site is the Layer 2 marker, and that is a copy-paste job rather than an integration. That makes this a shorter conversation than most security purchases, so here is the honest version of it.
Follow the brief back to the team that wrote it
Counterfeit enforcement is a legal and brand problem. Domain impersonation is a security problem. The teams, the budgets and the success measures are different, and a single platform rarely serves both well.
Neither of us replaces the other
We do not touch marketplaces, piracy or unauthorised distribution, and we will not pretend to. If that is your exposure, Red Points is built for it and we are not.
Check the security half is covered by somebody
If nothing in your stack is watching for domains registered to impersonate you, that gap exists whatever you do about counterfeits. The free scan will show you the size of it in a couple of minutes.
Questions buyers ask us about Red Points
Can one platform cover both counterfeits and domain impersonation?
Some platforms sell both, and if your needs on each are shallow that can work. The difficulty is that they are genuinely different disciplines: one is trademark and marketplace enforcement, usually run by legal or brand, and the other is impersonation and phishing, usually run by security. Our view is narrow on purpose. We do not do counterfeits at all. What we do instead is go further down the domain layer than a platform splitting its engineering across both can afford to.
Does DefendDomain do counterfeit or marketplace enforcement?
No. Marketplace listings, counterfeit goods and piracy are deliberately out of scope, and a purpose-built enforcement platform will do them far better than we would. We cover the domain layer: look-alike domains, cloned sites, stolen content, fraudulent certificates and the posture of your own domains.
Can we use both?
Plenty of consumer brands need to. Counterfeit enforcement and domain fraud prevention are different problems with different owners inside a business, and they rarely compete for the same budget line.
We are pricing Red Points. Where does DefendDomain sit in that budget?
As a separate line item rather than a competing quote, because the two enforce on different things. Red Points prices counterfeit and marketplace enforcement, and that kind of model commonly scales with the number of listings and removals you put through it. Ours is one annual subscription for the domain layer, with unlimited takedowns and no per-enforcement charge, sized for companies between $10M and $500M in revenue and quoted from a demo. If one budget has to cover counterfeits and impersonation domains both, price them separately, and check that neither brief has assumed the other one covers it.
What does a look-alike domain actually cost us?
The fastest realised cost is money leaving the building. A typosquatted supplier domain sends your finance team an invoice with new bank details and it gets paid. A cloned login page takes a member of staff's credentials, which becomes account takeover, regulatory exposure and often ransomware. Your customers get phished with your branding and you carry the churn and the reputational damage. By the time you find out, the cost is already yours.
